We Build the _____ City
Branding, Content, Environmental, Print
The NYC Dept. of Design and Construction builds and maintains the buildings and infrastructure that the City needs to operate, but it remains largely unknown to most New Yorkers. The agency wanted to connect with the public and let them know about the importance of urban infrastructure.
We chose the venue of the New Museum’s biennial Ideas City Festival, and mounted a “Civic Values Walking Tour” of DDC projects in the immediate vicinity. We linked each construction project to a lofty civic value that they enable, thus linking the agency’s work with the shared ideals of urban dwellers.
The result was a day-long “open house” of City building projects. Low budget and put together using some actual construction materials, the event inspired thinking about the ideals that bind New Yorkers, and the web of infrastructure that supports those ideals.
