NYC Street Wraps

Environmental

A construction site in the middle of an already over-busy city: simply a nuisance and and eyesore? or can it provide an opportunity for decoration, storytelling, or even contemplation?

As part of community outreach efforts, NYC’s Department of Design and Construction wanted to use the construction site wraps as a canvas for site specific works. In Chinatown, we created a bold graphic system to stand out and play against the chaotic scenes behind it. In Times Square, we worked with the Times Square Alliance and artist JR to print his photography on the wraps. The resulting juxtapositions and overlaps are playful, provocative, and ever-changing.

With these wraps, DDC contributes to the dynamic and impromptu visual and semiotic mash-ups that make cities so inspiring.
